Painting flowers in particular seems to free my creative spirit. Floral still lifes present a simple framework from which any number of outcomes can be explored. I start with a notion of opposing elements: opposites on the color wheel or something light and something dark. 

I love how petals look against dull grays. As an avid watcher of the latest trends in design and fashion, I thrive on clever color combinations and interesting negative spaces.  

 Nothing thrills me more than a composition that both satisfies traditional standards and serves as salve for my inner design junkie....and if my painting looks good with your sofa, I consider it a bonus. (:
